How

6/1/15 Can I shoot a 50Cal there?
NO - the rifle range is about 300 yards, all bullets must impact the backstops. 

6/1/15 Can I shoot full auto's there?
Only in the private bays with the required insurance

6/1/15 How much is it to use the Range
  • Currently it is free to use this City Park. (Fees might be coming as amenities (like restrooms) are installed). 
  • We do accept donations to help cover ongoing improvements to the facility. 

05/11/2015 - Are there targets and target stands provided?
  • No, you will need to bring your own targets and supplies. 
  •    Only standard Paper - cardboard - steel - targets allowed. NO Shooting GLASS or other Dangerous items. Please place targets so that bullets impact the backstop.  
9/14/14 Can the range be reserved?       

Yes the range can be reserved for private events, however there are some rules that apply to everyone  (both business / individuals or Clubs) who are interested in setting up reservations.

  • 1st: the reserving party must have a copy of their insurance retainer on file with the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Club and the City must be named as a secondary insured ($1 Million rider policy is required)
  • 2nd: the reserving party must have the bay reserved with the Clubs Range Reservation Officer.
  • 3rd: the reserving party is only allowed to reserve the range no more than 16 hours per month. 


9/14/14 Can people shoot clay pigeons at the end past the pistol bays?  
  • No, Shooting is only legal in designated - developed shooting bays - stations. 

9/14/14 Can shotguns be used at the rifle and pistol range. UPDATE 7-1-2015

  • Yes - Shotguns are now allowed in the last 4 shooting bays ONLY - No Trap or Skeet Type Shooting - Targets & shot must stay in shooting bay
  •     Anyone who fails to clean up their spent shells is subject to citation and fines for littering - Trash cans are provided use them. 

Who can participate- 
  • anyone (However anyone showing unsafe firearms handling and / or failing for follow POSTED range safety rules will be warned or may be asked to leave if the behavior is continued). 

What is a Service rifle -  
  • M16, M14, M1 and commercially manufactured versions.

What is a Vintage Service Rifle – 
  • Any service rifle of a type made before 1950 
What is a Match Rifle -
  •  A center fire Rifle with metallic sights and a magazine capacity of no less than five rounds.

Shooting Match General Info-
  • Magazine change required in rapid fire stages, magazines or stripper clips maybe loaded with eithe
               five and five rounds or two and eight rounds for a total of ten rounds.

Shooting Match General Info- 
  • All slow fire stages are loaded in the rifle singly.
